June 10th - the day Transition Solihull met for the first time - will go down in my own personal calendar of red letter, high days and holidays to be celebrated.
We were a small group - eight of us - but everyone who came seemed ready to get involved and eager to get started.
We spent a little time at the start of the meeting listening to Transition Stratford's experiences - huge thanks to James and Roger for coming over and sharing what they had learnt - and then launched in to our own discussions.
It was great that there were so many talents in the room - gardeners and marketeers, educationalists and campaigners, links with both council and faith community.
Two strands quickly emerged. We agreed we should work towards a bigger launch - but that we needed to do some awareness raising first. There was also a strong interest in promoting local food - growing, producing and publicising.
We left with a commitment to work up plans for an open space event in the early autumn. The idea is to build it around local food. In preparation we'll also develop a schedule of awareness raising events.
The next steering group meeting will be held on the 24th June at 7.30. It will probably be in the Ramada Jarvis in Solihull again - but I'll confirm details shortly. If you can come and are interested, we'd love to see you.
