First film show - the post mortem...

Almost a week since our first film show.

I should have blogged before, but I've been wondering about what I can say. At one level the show was a flop - only three people came - so why don't I feel badly about it?

It's partly because the people who did come were great. It's not just that it's always good to meet like minded people, it's also the excitement of knowing that the people, talents and knowledge are out there if we can just make the right connections.

New connections too - the impact in nursing of over dependence on machines, for example. And about the frustrations of the young environmental activist at school.

There's a satisfaction in that the venue and the technology worked. It was a credible show - and thanks too to the gods of Transition (and the excellent night staff at Touchwood) who produced a set of spare laptop speakers when we needed them.

And, for me there was a sense of having made a start. It's taken a while, but we've gone public, made something happen, made a beginning (and learnt a lot in the process). Now for the next step...

  1. Well done, and please don't be disheartened! We have had nights like that, and the temptation is to think - are we wasting our time? But having persevered, learnt from our experiences (not mistakes) we have had successful evenings with good turn outs. And this is the same for other local Transition Groups. You have probably heard of the wonderful unleashing of Transition Malvern Hills, with the Malvern theatre packed with 500 people - yet I remember less than a year earlier going to a film showing by transition Malvern Hills with only 3 guests - and two were from Evesham.
Raising awareness of the issues and opportunities around transition can seem like hard work, but when you get a full house, and more people committed to helping the transition to a low carbon future, it makes it all worthwhile. Keep trying and you will succeed!

    Best wishes
